Alfredo Kraus, whose mother was Spanish and whose father was Austrian, was born in the Casa de Colón in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria in 1927.
He was a Spanish tenor and singing teacher. He is considered one of the best light lyric tenors of the second half of the 20th century. His best known character was Werther, in the opera of the same name.
The Alfredo Kraus Auditorium is located in his hometown.
